A new season of “Food Network Star” began on Sunday night, 12 new homecooks or accomplished chefs competing to become a star on the Food Network. The contestants were met at the iconic Hollywood back-lot by their mentors and judges Giada De Laurentiis, Alton Brown, and Bobby Flay. And their first task was to introduce themselves and give a hint as to what their perspective is on cooking.

Most faltered by either being too much, and others were just intimidated, the mentors then proceeded to inform them that a gala would be given that evening and there would be 100 hundred guests, along with the mentors, the network represented by Bob Tuschman, Susie Fogelson, and television personality Ross Mathews. The competitors would fix each a hundred-one bite portions of their signature dish and present them at their arrival.

They all rushed off and began to prepare their dishes hoping to be the best that evening, then one by one they arrived at the Red Carpet evening, lined up with media and a cheering crowd and once at the podium they were to introduced themselves and their dish. Those at the top were Loreal, Lenny, and Nicole who definitely appear to be front runners from the get go with their charisma and seemingly tasty dishes, then at the bottom were Sarah, who has returned for another chance at the grand prize found herself at the bottom, along with Donna, and Emma.

One contestant would need to be eliminated and Donna was the first to be ousted, she has a good point of view, however, appears to intense in her delivery, something that could be worked on but the other 2 are a bit closer to what the mentors and network expect from a food network star.

“Food Network Star” runs on Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on the Food Network.
