Chef Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis met the seven remaining contestants on “Food Network Star” on Sunday night’s episode and invited them to watch a screen where Alton Brown was shown walking along snowy mountains on the Swiss Alps, but then surprisingly he went off camera and they watched Alton Brown again, this time sipping wine in Greek Isles.
Their task was to prepare an item they wish to market, choose the packaging, and then do a 30 second commercial presenting their item in a locale seen by the audience, however, them only being surrounded by a Smart Screen that can show the actor as being anywhere in the universe. The challenge was not over yet, because they would be assign a locale from where to promote their product, Nicole would be selling her Jam in the Old West; Loreal will sell her hot sauce from a Tomato Garden; Reuben will sell his hot sauce on the Moon; Lenny will be selling his cowboy hot sauce from The Great Wall of China; Emma got to sell her Pickled Beets from Paris; Sarah will be marketing her Baby Food on a Tropical Island; and Chris will be selling his cold Gourmet Butter from the Desert.
The packaging part went well and they all received high marks for that, the products were then tasted by Bob Tuschman, Susie Fogelson, chef Flay, and Giada De Laurentiis, and all the products received high marks in taste, but then the commercial were a whole different story, aside from Loreal, who did the best job overall, presenting the product, entertaining and featuring her point of view. The other cooks fell short in one way or another, Chris’ product was praised and announced as the best of the night, so he moved into next week along with Loreal, then Lenny and Sarah did enough of a good job to also move on to Las Vegas next week where the competition will continue.
That meant that at the bottom were Nicole, who somewhat lost her way, Emma who put on a French accent and rather than sounding amusing as she expected wound up working against her, and Reuben who just fell flat and did not include where he was selling his product from, and seemed as though he was reading from a script, and after discussion and voting Reuben was sent home. Those cooks who are eliminated will have a chance to battle it out and perhaps return to the competition and this can be watched online www.foodnetwork.com/starsalvation
