Food Network corned beef and cabbage dinners: St Patrick's Day Irish recipes

Celebrate St Patrick's Day on March 17 with some traditional Irish recipes. Corned beef and cabbage recipes rank high on the list of Irish recipes, and it's no wonder. The grocery stores usually have corned beef brisket on sale around St Patrick's Day, and along with potatoes, cabbage, onions and carrots, it makes a very cheap and easy meal.

Corned Beef and Cabbage recipes, also known as New England Boiled Dinners, are so easy to make too. These tasty Irish dinners can be done in the crockpot, on top of the stove, baked in the oven, or cooked in a pressure cooker. I like using the pressure cooker because it's so darned quick, but there's nothing like a slow cooked corned beef dinner that's been simmering for hours.

The 4 pound corned beef brisket I bought from the local Super Stop & Shop store was on sale for $1.99 per pound ($7.96), 3 pounds of cabbage was also on sale for $.29 per pound ($.90), 3 pounds of red potatoes ($1.99), 3 pounds of carrots ($1.99), 2 onions ($1.00), 2 stalks of celery ($.25). I spent about $14.09 (up from $12.53 two years ago) for the entire dinner that will most likely feed 6-8 people. Of course, that doesn't count the Bailey's Irish Cream Cheesecake, Homemade Bailey's Irish Cream Liqueur, or a nice warm loaf of Irish Soda Bread! Still, we're talking about an inexpensive Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner with alcohol, dessert and bread!

I'll give you some Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe links which include How-To videos from the Food Network. We're all using basically the same ingredients but the cooking methods are different. Watch them and decide which one you like best. Paula Deen even has a Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner that takes 10 minutes! I'm not crazy about it, but I guess it serves a purpose when you're short on time and looking for a fast meal.
