The recent announcement of the closure of several Tennessee Food Lion Grocery stores in Middle Tennessee includes one Food Lion Grocery in Old Hickory which is part of the Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County area.
It is unknown just how many employees will be laid off at the Old Hickory Food Lion store at this time, but the overall closure of '113 underperforming Food Lion stores' includes that store, plus one in Hendersonville, and a Nashville area Smyrna store.
A second Food Lion store in Hendersonville had closed as recently as the earlier part of 2011 with another store in nearby Gallatin closing up soon after the one in Hendersonville. And within the past few years another Food Lion store located in the Shopping Plaza in Donelson, not far from Opryland Hotel, had closed it's doors in between our visits to some of the retail stores in that Nashville shopping mall.

The Nashville newspaper reported on the closure of the stores this week in it's article:
Food Lion to close doors in 30 days
"Also according to the company’s web site, (foodlion.com) “All affected stores will close within 30 days,” and will displace approximately 4,900 associates.."

That doesn't mean much time for those employees to be able to prepare themselves for finding new jobs. Many of the employees at the Old Hickory Food Lion store and at the Hendersonville store that we shop at have probably been there for years, and yes, they will certainly feel a loss of their jobs, plus the separation of the daily duties of waiting on much-favored customers. Just the day-to-day routine of going to work will be missed, and even though many will be able to draw unemployment in Nashville, it will certainly be hard to find a new job in this economy in the Nashville and Davidson county area.
Although the Nashville unemployment rates have been seen to be looking better, it is still a loss of income for many of the employees who have been employed by the Food Lion Grocery stores in Nashville.
