Food Policy Leaders convene at the 16th Annual Food Safety Summit

Did you know? The Food Safety Summit will be held Tuesday, April 8 through Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD.

Over 1,500 food safety professionals including leaders from Chiquita, McDonald's, KwikTrip, Tyson Foods, The Cheesecake Factory, ConAgra Foods, US Foods, as well as federal and state regulators and academicians from around the country will gather next week in Baltimore for the 16th Annual Food Safety Summit. The Summit is designed to meet the educational and information needs of the entire food industry and will offer three days of informative and educational sessions and a sold out trade show floor offering the latest products and services from top companies in the industry.

Highlights include:
•Half-Day Workshop on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 on Doing the Right Thing - Meeting Consumer and FSMA Food Safety Expectations. The speakers will discuss how the food safety supply chain should address food safety. They will also discuss the pros and cons of using regulatory third party audit versus a consultant audit to address the FSAM FSVP.

The keynote will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 9:30 a.m.

  • The third annual Food Safety Summit Town Hall will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. FDA's Mike Taylor, USDA's Brian Ronholm, and AFDO's Joseph Corby will address pressing issues of today in regards to regulatory agencies and the private sector.
  • This year's Food Safety Summit Expo & Conference offer industry professionals the opportunity to attend three pre-certification programs on HACCP, ServSafe, and Seafood HACCP, four half-day workshops, 20 education sessions, and an exhibitor showcase theater on the tradeshow floor. The Food Safety Summit has been approved for 25.5 NEHA Continuing Education Credits. The complete conference program is available here.
  • Expo Show Floor will feature over 150 exhibiting companies offering new products and services from leaders in the industry. There will be two full days of presentations from exhibitors in the Exhibitor Showcase Theater to hear from experts about the newest solutions in food safety.
  • Awards Programs - There will be two awards programs during the Summit.

The 13th Annual Food Quality Award Reception will celebrate this year's winner for their outstanding contributions to food safety and quality. The NSF Food Safety Leadership Awards will recognize food safety industry members' achievements that have lasting impact for consumers and industry alike.

Tuesday, April 8 Schedule

  • Half Day Conference Workshops on One Health, Pre-Requisite Programs and Traceability from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m
  • Workshop: Doing the Right Thing - Meeting Consumer FSMA Food Safety Expectations from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Welcome Reception with a chance to meet AFDO Regulators from 5p.m. to 7 p.m.

Wednesday, April 9 Schedule

  • Keynote Presentation - Ed Lonergan, CEO of Chiquita Brands, and Don Zietlow, CEO of Kwik Trip, Inc. from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
