Food, fun and football!

Super Bowl countdown has already started. The television stations are inundated with commercials from Little Ceasar's Pizza, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and many, many more fast food chains with super deals for your Super Sunday party!

I always got a kick out of planning the party. After all, the food is the whole reason for getting together, right? Oh, and anticipating those outrageous commercials, too! The game is simply the reason that some stick around, I guess.

There are a lot of good recipes out there for football parties. I have a few good ideas to share with you, as well as information for where you can find the ingredients as well. So, lets get started since we only have a few days left before the big day!

My first recipe is for fresh tomato salsa. You can make this ahead of time so the ingredients have time to meld. Giving the ingredients time to incorporate together improves the taste and quality of the salsa.

Jennie's Fresh Tomato Salsa

4 big ripe tomatoes - diced

1 bunch of cilantro - chopped

2 bunches of green onions - chopped

Chili powder (to taste)

garlic powder (to taste)

salt (to taste)

pepper (to taste)

You favorite tortilla chips

Dice tomatoes, chop cilantro, and green onions. Add all the spices and stir very thoroughly. Put in a plastic container with lid and refrigerate for up to 24 hours for best results. Serve with chips!

Jennie's Homemade Guacamole

4-6 ripe avocados – smashed

1 tsp. lemon juice

garlic powder (to taste)

chili powder (to taste)

1 ripe tomato chopped or a few tablespoons of salsa

Your favorite tortilla chips

Mash ripe avocados in bowl, add lemon juice, then add spices. Stir. Put into bowl and cover. Chill for at least 4 hours. Put chopped tomatoes or salsa on top. Then serve alongside salsa with your favorite tortilla chips.

All the delicious ingredients for both recipes can be found at Miles Farmers Market in Solon. They always have the best, fresh produce available year-round.

Oh, and if you need a dessert for the football party, the Market has yummy confections in their bakery department as well.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

And go New York Giants and New England Patriots!
