How many of us have been on social networking websites and grazed at a couple of friends pictures of dishes proudly displayed up close and slightly disturbing? From Sunday dinners to birthday barbeques, which should make your mouth water, but instead you slightly cringe or even gag at the sight of it? Have you ever been in a position where the person has the nerve to ask if the food looks good? It may be difficult, but a word of advised should do the trick. What some don’t realize is all the work that goes into the every day ads we see where the foods appear soooo… delectable and delightful! Remember all the McDonalds and other fast-food ads where the hamburger is so juicy and succulent. What was it now? Oh yes, two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Then reality sets in when you go up to the drive threw and find a flat disappoint, which was far from the reason you left the house in the first place.
Well how can you fix the problem and have users view your pic with delight instead of fright? Let’s start with the lighting. The lighting is the key to all photographs. Without proper lighting even the most beautiful pot-roast can look like something a cow left behind! It is always best to use lighting that’s portable, which gives option to how you want the image to be portrayed. Try to use angles from the top and directly behind to enhance texture and the smoothness to increase the visibility of the food. In addition, make sure that the background always contrast the imaged focused on, which makes the image pop!
Also, the type of camera can make a HUGE difference in the quality of the photograph. Word of advice, (CERTAIN) camera phones are ill suited for taking (DETAILED) pictures. However, you wouldn’t want to go out and purchase an expensive camera just to put on Facebook or Twitter. Here are some excellent phones and digital cameras to try out that will make the task a much easier. The iPhone 5 is a perfect example of the type of phone to use to take proper food photographs. Don’t slouch on the HTC inspire smartphone. It provides high definition, clear detail photograph, and won’t break your bank account like the more up to date versions of iPhones. You can always grab yourself a great digital camera and upload your photos as well. I highly recommend Cannon EOS 5D Mark II, while it may seem costly it’s well worth every penny. However, if you are trying to survive the recession you can always purchase the Cannon’s younger brother, the Cannon EOS Rebel T. Now you’ve turned your dark grueling pictures from blah to extraordinary! Don’t worry if you’re not into taken pictures of food for your favorite social networking sites you can always uses the recommended high tech gadgets to enhance your personal snapshots. Good luck readers and take a big beautiful snap shot and post it for me!
