Food drive this Saturday at Cowtown Farmers' Market, hosted by Artisan Baking Company

On this Saturday, September 11, 2010, there will be a food drive taking place for the Tarrant Area Food Bank. The event is being hosted by Artisan Baking Company, at the Cowtown Farmers’ Market, from 8am till noon. All goods will be delivered to Tarrant Area Food Bank after the market.

Fresh, locally grown and produced foods can be purchased at the market, and donated. Food items and non-perishable items can also be brought to the food drive, and donated.

The Tarrant Area Food Bank is a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding the hungry in north Texas. The primary role of the organization is to provide food for shelters, after school programs, soup kitchens, and senior centers located in Tarrant County and 12 surrounding counties of north Texas. Each month, the Tarrant Area Food Bank delivers emergency groceries to 43,000 families, and serves up 565,000 meals and snacks in north Texas.

Tarrant Area Food Bank also provides educational and outreach programs to the community. The Tarrant Area Food Bank Community Kitchen offers free culinary training for low-income and unemployed individuals. The culinary training program is a 14 week course taught by a professional chef. Throughout the course, meals are being prepared and provided to partner charities. The Tarrant Area Food Bank also offers nutrition and food safety education classes at no cost for participants.
