As critical as it is to exercise, equally and maybe more important is a healthy diet. I know too many people who will work incredibly hard physically only to consume inordinate calories of unhealthy food. They are virtually taking one step forward and two steps backwards.
Let’s review the basics of healthy nutrition in its simplest form straight from crossFit.com:
What Should I Eat?
In plain language, base your diet on garden vegetables, especially greens, lean meats, nuts and seeds, little starch, and no sugar. Many have observed that keeping your grocery cart to the perimeter of the grocery store while avoiding the aisles is a great way to protect your health. Food is perishable. The stuff with long shelf life is all suspect.
What Foods Should I Avoid?
Excessive consumption of high-glycemic carbohydrates is the primary culprit in nutritionally caused health problems. High glycemic carbohydrates are those that raise blood sugar too rapidly. They include rice, bread, candy, potato, sweets, sodas, and most processed carbohydrates.
Avoid high – glycemic carbohydrates to avoid hyperinsulinism that is linked to high cholesterol and blood pressure, obesity, and the whole plethora of disease. The importance is crucial as current research supports a reduced caloric intake and reduced glycemic carbohydrates, results in increased life expectancy.
If that isn’t sobering enough for you here is something new to keep an eye and ear on. How about Nano foods! Nanotechnology is a lab process of rearranging atoms into chemical particles, most commonly nano titanium dioxide to conjure taste, texture, flavor, and aroma for our senses. Bénédicte Trouillerhas discovered results with laboratory mice that nano titanium dioxide is destroying the animals DNA and chromosomes. This leading to all the big names of diseases, cancer, heart disease, neurological disease and aging," says Professor Robert Schiestl, a genetic toxicologist who ran the lab at UCLA's School of Public Health.
Well, that is something to chew on. Just keep it real Columbus!
