Food addict?

See also

We are slowly releasing winter here in Michigan and edging into spring. I recently went on a cruise vacation and discovered (when I couldn’t fit into my summer wardrobe) that I soothed my winter blues with food!

As I watched a recent Dr. Oz show I wondered if I might fit the profile of a food addict. His guest, Psychologist Ramani Durvasula PHD, shared these criteria:

• Do you think of food more than 1 hour per day?
• Does food control your social life?
• Do you turn to food during life stressors?
• Do you overeat?
• Do you suffer withdraw symptoms if you try to give up foods like sugary treats?

If you answer yes to 2 or more of these questions, you are considered to be a food addict just like me!

She offered several suggestions to break this pattern:

• Take the supplement Irvingia twice a day (helps offset withdraws).
• Start your day off with a peanut butter and Oatmeal breakfast (good combination to get you moving).
• Do not eat after 8PM. Dr. Oz explained that you must reset your craving clock by eating from 8AM to 8PM and then allowing your body to recovery for a 12-hour period.

I am always looking for ways to improve my health and so tonight, while I would normally be munching as I write this article, I am restraining because it is 1:30 AM! Who knows, by summer, maybe I’ll be slimmer and I will have fewer thoughts about food. How about you?
