While fans are waiting to hear more about the Foo Fighters' upcoming eighth studio album, the band announced the premiere date for their HBO series “Sonic Highways.” The first episode will air Friday, October 17th at 11:00 PM ET/PT. This episode will also feature the first track from their upcoming album. The show follows the Foo Fighter's in eight different cities – Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, DC and New York – as they record the new LP in various legendary studios. Each episode will feature interviews with artists who have recorded at the respective studios, such as Ian Mackaye, Paul Stanley, and Nancy Wilson. Frontman Dave Grohl is the series' director and also handled all the booking and interviewing. A teaser trailer for the series has also been released.
Recently, it was announced the Foo Fighters finished their upcoming studio album. The new was revealed on Twitter by producer Butch Vig, who said “We are officially done with the new Foo Fighters album. 23 straight days mixing. IT'S EPIC!!!” Though a release date has yet to be set, the currently untitled album is expected sometime in November. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Grohl described the album's sound: “you’ll recognize Foo Fighters in this record but you’ll also be surprised by us. We’re doing things that we’ve never done before. Honestly, there are sections of songs that will really take you by surprise. And then there are choruses that you’ll just recognize as Foo Fighters within the first three seconds.”
