Back in late November, a water main broke downtown that led to flooding at one of Downtown Des Moines' favorite restaurants, Fong's Pizza. The restaurant, located a half-block north of Court Avenue at 223 Fourth Street, grew its popularity from serving excellent (and creative) Asian fusion and traditional pizzas until the wee hours of the morning. Patrons often stopped in after clubbing, bar-hopping, or attending concerts in the Court Avenue District for a late-night slice before going home and turning in.
Renovations are nearly complete, though, and restaurant management has set its sights on Tuesday, January 29 to re-open the doors. Fong's had to recover from over six feet of water in its basement that ruined refrigeration and freezer units, computers, and heating and cooling systems. The restaurant announced the re-opening date via their Facebook page on Tuesday night. Management also announced earlier this month that when the restaurant re-opened, they would have a remodeled dining area and a brand new drink menu.
