"He doesn't want a lawyer, was brought to Bellevue Hospital prior to going to Riker's, is getting his medications, would like some reading materials, was unaware of his court date." – Bile's summary of a visit with Julian Heicklen's wife Susan.

Background on Heicklen's arrest:
Julian Heicklen, arrested on May 25 for distributing Fully Informed Jury Association (FIJA) literature on public property in front of the US District Courthouse in Manhattan, is being detained by the New York City Department of Corrections in the North Infirmary Command at Ricker's Island.
Little had been learned about his legal or personal status since then.
Manhattan Libertarian Party membership director and webmaster Antonio Musumeci, known to his friends and most readers of the Libertarian News Examiner as Bile, was able to confirm Heicklen's personal welfare.
Heicklen was unprepared for being arrested in that none of his supporters or fellow Tyranny Fighters had been given contact information for his family, Bile explained in an email to Heicklen's supporters.
"Thankfully, I live close to Julian and have met his wife before," Bile reported, so on Sunday, May 30, "I drove down to his home and spent about 30 minutes speaking with Mrs. Susan Heicklen regarding Julian."
Susan Heicklen had heard nothing from the authorities until the morning after her husband's arrest when she received a call from the Bellevue psychiatric ward inquiring about his mental health.
Heicklen had initially been arrested by the Federal Protection Services police who then apparently turned him over to the NYPD who took him to Bellevue Hospital.

According to Bile, Susan Heicklen "explained that she felt he was in fine mental health but was doing something that the authorities disagreed with."
Susan Heicklen was able to track her Husband's whereabouts through the Department of Corrections system only with the aid of a Riker's Island Rabbi who reported on his physical condition and that he had been transferred to the North Infirmary Command.
While Heicklen "has not expressed interest in receiving money" Bile points out that it would give him "a bit more freedom."
Bile also reports that Heicklen does not want a lawyer, but his wife thinks it would be fine for attorneys to offer their services or even just advice.
At this writing Susan Heicklen is not planning to visit her husband "due to the complexities in visiting inmates" at Riker's Island.
For those who have the time and means to visit, Bile notes that Heicklen is allowed three visits a week with up to three visitors at a time.
The address for sending mail to Heicklen is:

It is recommended that people wishing to visit Heicklen first check the NYC DOC website for instructions on visiting inmates.
