Letting your yeas be yeas and your nays be nays is a Biblical standard that has long taken a beating in the arena of politics. The old joke of “how can you tell a politician is lying?” with the answer “are his lips moving?” has tragically become true for our political leadership.
Not only does one need to know the on the record or off the record character of a politician, but also the public and private views can be substantially different.
The dramatic change that has taken place is now one can say anything whether true or false in public without being taken to task for what is being said. Also it is not sufficient just to win, but to destroy the character of the opponent with falsehoods, innuendos, and gross exaggerations.
One can see the political theater playing out with the shutdown of our government. Without a doubt there has been a Republican insurrection that is more interested in President Barack Obama’s failure with the Affordable Care Act which is now the law of the land.
Instead of taking the professional approach that used to be the method of either political party, a hard line crew of Republicans have worked overtime to undermine implementation of ObamaCare. The tantrum has extended to the point where our government is shutting down.
Naturally Democrats want to lecture the stubborn Republicans about the legality of the law and how the Republicans are irresponsible not to abide by the law. Wait a minute, then what happened to the Defense of Marriage Act? Aren’t the roles reversed concerning the Affordable Care Act?
One thing that has been accomplished by the Obama Administration is that one does not have to follow the law if one chooses not to, particularly if one personally does not agree with it. This lesson learned is now being administered by rogue factions in the Republican Party. Aren't you suppose to not follow the law if you personally do not agree with it? The strategy for fighting against ObamaCare is right out of the democrat's own playbook.
This lesson has been practiced by various government agencies of the Obama Administration that have stepped out of bounds also. You really do not have to follow the law if it conflicts with what you want to do. This paradox has become a common practice by individuals of various federal agencies that took an oath to follow the laws of the land. There were no personal exemptions given.
It’s a shame that those more interested in failure are helping to engineer the government shutdown of services, but they have had great teachers in those as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who said Mitt Romney did not pay taxes in 10-years from the Senate floor. It’s amazing how those that are suppose to set the integrity example can turn on and off the honesty meter when it is convenient.
A Bible principle is that he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword, a principle of sowing and reaping that will surely come to pass. Living by the lie will birth a deception that self corrects those thinking they can bypass the spiritual laws established by God. The fact that your sin will find you out manifests itself far more accurately than it has been given credit.
Yes, the Republicans have behaved shamefully in not upholding the law as they took an oath, however the Democrats have absolutely no room to posture concerning lecturing anyone regarding following the laws established in the United States Constitution.
It is the old proverbial adage of the pot calling the kettle black.
