Following record-setting cold, Denver breaks high temperature record

Just two weeks the Mile High City was deep in the grips of a record-setting Arctic chill. Colorado’s famously inconsistent weather brought the other extreme today as Denver broke a record high temperature.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the high temperature today reached 68 degrees at 12:59 p.m.

This easily breaks the old high temperature record for December 18 of 66 degrees last set in 1979 and is far above the average temperature for the date of 42 degrees.

The Arctic cold arrived on December 3 and plunged temperatures from a high of 56 degrees that day down to a low of 11 degrees. For six straight days the Mile High City’s temperatures remained stubbornly below freezing.

It was two weeks ago today that Denver recorded the first of two back-to-back record low temperatures. December 4 saw a low of -13 degrees, December 5 dropped to 15 degrees.
