The real difference being that instead of the various County Department heads answering to the Board, they would have been answering to whoever was in the County Administrator position.
Several persons from the audience, including this writer, got up to speak against this proposal. This writer's basic position was that the People of Wright County voted for Board Members to make these decisions not unelected bureaucrats.
Others spoke to similar concerns of curtailing accountability of County public servants to the Board and County Commissioner accountability to the voters. The wholly unelected Metropolitan Council was cited as an example.
And it was properly brought up that since they were in the process of hiring a new coordinator, it would be unwise to give greater power to an, as yet, unknown person.
The issue was short circuited by a motion to advertise for a person for a County Coordinator position using the current County Coordinator job description. Hence, making a vote on the County Supervisor change moot.
“Someone that you have deprived of everything is no longer in your power. He is once again entirely free.”
In other matters, a proposed new "wheelage" tax was also defeated.
Along the way, a Bond "Salesman" was speaking to the direction of interest rates and whether or not certain county bonds should be refinanced. This writer asked the Bond Salesman what he thought about the $80 Billion in worthless money the Federal Reserve Bank is pumping into the economy each month and when WE THE PEOPLE could expect that policy to turn around and bite us.
The Bond Salesman went on to explain that the Fed referred to this printing of worthless money as Quantitative Easing III. The Bond Salesman tried to reassure everyone by saying despite the FED printing $80 Billion there has not been very much inflation. When this writer asked the Bond Salesman to indicate whether the Federal Reserve Bank was privately owned or publicly owned, he was quickly cut off by Board Chair Pat Sawatzke.
The truth is that the Federal Reserve Bank is a privately owned bank. It is no more a part of the Federal Government than Federal Express is. There is $25 Billion per year that can be easily identified as payments by WE THE PEOPLE to the private owners of the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank. Other money, such as money for holiday junkets for Congressfolks, rent payments for mistresses of Congressmen, and payments for booze, strippers and hookers are all expenses and lost in the accounting of the Federal Reserve Bank. Even more money is paid by WE THE PEOPLE in some bizarre bond scheme whereby our government gives the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank Bonds/Treasury Bills in order to get new money that only Congress can authorize to be printed back from the FED (See Video - Have you heard about the FED) And the FED has refused attempts by Congress (demanded mostly by Ron Paul) to audit the privately owned Federal Reserve Banks books.
Now lets put just that $25 Billion in perspective. About 561 people run our Government. (Congress, President, VP, Supreme Court and the Cabinet) With $25 Billion, you can give each of those folks a Million Dollars and still have about $24.4 Billion left over. I don't think I have to much more plainly paint the problems giving $25 Billion in unearned money private owners of the Federal Reserve Bank creates.
"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford
And to drive the point home even further, If we are just printing worthless money at the rate of $80 Billion per month, Why don't we just print enough worthless money to buy the FED back for WE THE PEOPLE. Then WE THE PEOPLE would get at least $25 Billion per year that could be used to pay down the debt or put into the general fund?
This writer would like to share one other issue that came before the Wright County Board this week. Apparently our EMT's have came to be financed by the seat belt law fines. However, so many people are now wearing their seat belts that the EMT's are being left underfunded.
This writer noted that despite all the lives, medical expenses and damages this law had saved the Insurance Companies, he has seen no reduction in his automotive insurance rates. This writer went on further to explain that taxpayer money was used to improve the bottom line of these insurance companies. This writer's logic went further to say that there must be some way for WE THE PEOPLE to realize some benefit from the use of taxpayer money to improve the profits of the insurance companies. If the insurance companies' won't appropriately lower our insurance rates, isn't there someway to tax them to recoup the extra cost of law enforcement used to improve the insurance company's profits? At this point, this writer was again interrupted by Pat Sawatske and told it was a matter to be taken up with the Minnesota State Legislature.
This writer's response to Mr. Sawatzke would have been, As the County is absorbing the costs of improving the profits of the Insurance Companies' profits using tax payer money, shouldn't the County Board be the proactive one's in protecting the pocket books of the Wright County taxpayers? Well, Pat.
In the meantime, Minnesota Legislators, what are you going to do about insurance companies having tax payer money used to improve their profits and then not returning some or all of the realized savings (at least the cost of enforcement) returned to their customers or the County?
"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of Liberty." Thomas Jefferson
But this writer is just a simpleton and cannot possibly know better than elected officials how best to manage the tax money of WE THE PEOPLE.
Those were my thoughts.
