On September 7th Degan debuted a collection of knitwear the day before Fashion Week in New York: Follow the Knit!
Showing the collection at Artisanal House in presentation style, the new collection displayed knitting in several forms, from wrapping the Artisanal house in a building scarf, to dressing up models in overt knitted undergarments, to hair wraps and knitting lessons. On hand were several star knitters knitting and pearling away as onlookers took in the collection and presentation.
Degen, designed by Lindsay Degen, took on overt sexual references often too absurd for everyday wear. Knitting nipples on bra’s, coin slots on the back of panties and dressing up these items on self-satisfying art sculptures.
The collection mainly focused on undergarments, and mismatched socks. Full of vibrant colors in contrast with natural undertones, the garments were playful and different.
The goal of Degen’s first collection was to bring some humor to the sexuality of men and women while putting it on display as a garment, and objectifying its wearer.
“The Degen collection presents an accessible confrontation to this frigidity…everyone wears undies!” said Degen in her press statement.
