Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid takes guests on a magical journey from land to under the sea and back on land to Prince Eric’s castle as guest experience the musical world of Ariel. Guests of all ages are invited to climb aboard clam shells as their slow moving journey begins. The six minute ride begins with Scuttle, the sea gull laying out the stories for guest as their clam shells move slowing along the ride path.
Sebastian’s featured song, “Under the Sea” has him standing in an open clam shell, singing and conducting an orchestra of undersea creatures. Guests are transported through the colorful delights of animatronic singing undersea friends. Many fish even play music instruments and join in on a Congo line.
The song, “Part of Your World” is sung by an animatronic Ariel as she shows off her many treasures in her grotto including the Prince Eric statue. Guests are mesmerized by the sights and sounds as their ride slowly progresses along through the story.
The dark part of the ride occurs as guests are greeted by Ursula who croons her famous song, “Poor Unfortunate Souls” with her sidekicks, Flotsam and Jetsam at her side. Ursula stands seven and a half feet high and reaches 12 feet wide, which enhances her as an overbearing evil villainess.
The mood lightens as Ariel and Prince Eric take a boat ride in the lagoon as Sebastian sings “Kiss the Girl” while turtles and their friends join in to create the background music.
The ride ends on a happy note with King Triton creating fireworks in the sky why Ariel in her wedding dress and Prince Eric wave to their ocean friends from their castle’s balcony.
The ride is a whimsical look at the colorful sea creatures found under the sea while exploring the story of King Triton’s youngest and seventh daughter, Ariel. Wichitans traveling to Walt Disney World this fall will leave this ride located in new Fastasyland at the Magic Kingdom with smiles on their faces while singing the familiar tunes from the movie.
