Explore the art of yoga at the Smithsonian Institution's new exhibition and programs at the Sakler Gallery.
Opening Oct. 19, "Yoga: The Art of Transformation" brings together ancient icons, illustrated manuscripts, and court paintings dating from the 2nd to the 20th century. Presenting more than 130 objects, the exhibition documents the power of yoga in Indian culture.
Bringing yoga to life on the National Mall, the museum has scheduled sessions with yogis, as well as films and concerts. Admission is free of charge.
The central theme of this very visual show is the role that yogis and yoginis have played in Indian society over 2,000 years. Traditional music and song as well as yoga movements will be presented through January 26, 2014.
