Many people seem to complain about what they don't have in life, making statements such as "I can't buy this" or "I don't have enough time for that."
What they fail to realize, however, are the opportunities that already exist in front of their eyes.
If you present yourself with an attitude of lack, you are not focused on gratitude. Realizing the blessings that are part of your life now can help you learn to appreciate people, places, pets, and situations which are often taken for granted.
But how do you gain that insight and open your eyes to the miracles of simple pleasures, authentic relationships, bonding moments with kids, or comforting times with animals and nature?
Often a dramatic life event or crisis precedes such a personal transformation. People can also reach a point of epiphany when they consciously pursue a path of spiritual growth and development.
The awakening that occurs when you discover how fascinating life can truly be by just acknowledging the wonderful gifts you already have is nothing less than a miracle.
Appreciating such things as special moments in time, dedicated moms, and sentimental objects from romantic partners can help you realize how blessed you already are and strengthen connections with those whom you really care about.
Being centered on what you are presently blessed with is part of living a conscious and insightful life. Stop complaining about what you don't have and extend gratitude for every little thing that you so often take for granted.
Showing appreciation can appease the fear, fill the voids, and increase the light inside of your heart.
Next time something doesn't go your way, surrender control to the flow of the universe. Open your mind, body, heart, and soul to hidden blessings and beautiful opportunities that you may have otherwise ignored.
Stay in the here and now and tap into your senses to perceive the wondrous gifts of the moment, regardless of how life events unfold.

Great article Alice.
Beautiful. I agree completely. I've actually Enjoyed cutting back on things. It's amazing how much you realize you have rather than don't have. Try a week of just eating what you already have in your cupboard, freezer and fridge- you'd be really surprised how far it went and you saved all that grocery money. Thank you for your continued thought provoking articles!
Wonderful! and so important!
Gratitude can often be very powerful medicine. In the book Alcoholics Anonymous, there is a wonderful quote about learning to "distinguish between our wants, which are never satisfied, and our needs, which are always provided for."
It's a big part of being present!
