With the 2011 EAA Airventure just around the corner, the procedures for ultralight pilots arriving in their aircraft are available for review online. During the week of Airventure, the air traffic control tower Witttman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Oshkosh, WI, becomes the busiest in the world, making it vital that specific arrival procedures be implemented to ensure the safe arrival of all participants.
As the event nears, special NOTAM's (.pdf) are issued every year, designating arrival and departure procedures for all aircraft. The airports long runways are 'split' into multiple runways, with dots spaced out down the runway allowing for multiple arrival operations at the same time in order to handle the traffic load.
Seaplanes and Ultralights both have separate, specific instructions as well. Seaplanes have a designated location as well on a sectioon of private land along the bay. This seaplane base is only available during the week of Airventure. Ultralights are also provided a special landing and parking area due to their unique size and performance characteristics.
While the NOTAM contains the actual runway arrival and departure procedures for Ultralight aircraft, the specifc Ultralight web page on the Airventure website provides additional map graphics and even photo's and satellite views to assist pilots in spotting key waypoints and landmarks.
The page also includes the flight schedule for various ultralight aircraft. Flight operations are split up during the day based on the type of aircraft. The following is the preliminary schedule, which is subject to change based on weather and other operations at the airport.
