Foci shined at Belasco Theatre (Photos)

Foci taught the Belasco Theatre a thing or two about Hip-Hop, on Mar. 21. He was the main support. Haseeb, RockOnSomeSteez and Omenz were the opening acts. Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, was the headliner.

Accompanying Foci was his disc jockey, DJ Pops. Reggae Pops, Carl Get’em, Christine Ariya, Versis, Skyzoo and Illmind also made special guest appearances.

DJ Pops warmed up the troop with music from Hip-Hop’s past which included “Hypnotize” by Notorious B.I.G.. Foci raised his arms up several times to get a rise out of the audience, as he threw apparel and flyers in the horde and walked off stage. Reggae Pops danced on stage, as the music continued and he made his exit. As the crowd was about to simmer, he ran back on stage, greeted the viewers and went onto perform “Three’s A Crowd”.

Afterwards—DJ Pops continued to take the spectators down Hip-Hop’s memory lane and played snippets of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”, Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre’s “California Love” and many others. Then, Foci invited Get’em to the stage to perform “Los Angelinos”. Foci had the listeners repeatedly chant, “Get’Em” after he shouted “Carl”. He jumped on both platforms at the end of the stage and threw more shirts into the gathering. Afterwards, he gave thanked Bey for the opportunity.

Ariya was brought onto the stage, after Get’em exited. She joined Foci for “Remote Control”, “Devil in Disguise”. During “Remote Control”, he complimented her on her vocal range. After the two songs, she left and Foci invited Versis onto the stage for “iLLcan”. Afterwards, Ariya was brought on stage again to help with the chorus of “Real DJs”. Before they recited the song, Foci gave praise to Sway and Tech for playing the song on “The Wakeup Show”.

When Foci finished free-styling over Mobb Deep’s “Keep It Thorough”, he quoted A Tribe Called Quest.
Foci asked, “Can I kick it?”
Those in attendance responded by shouting, “Yes, you can!”
Afterwards, Foci asked if he could speak to them for a moment before performing a piece of spoken word. Then, he invited Skyzoo to perform “Jansport Strings”.

“Desperado” was the last song of Foci’s set. He invited Reggae Pops onto the stage, to dance along to the track. Foci thanked everyone whom made tonight possible and threw more merchandise into the mob.

“Rise Up” was also part of Foci’s set.
