On Oct. 11, 2013, Fort Myers Christian School held a special fund raising event called "Greater." It was held in Fort Myers, Fla. in the school's gym. Many (100+), including Examiner.com, were in attendance, and from the looks of it the event was a very successful one!
When asked why the event was called "Greater," Mel Mitchell had this to say.
"Just when you feel that you have a "life verse" from the Bible, the Lord hits you with a new one... this happened to me recently from a verse that jumped off the page at me. 'I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.' - 3 John 1:4 (NIV)"
The evening's entertainment, in "celebrity style," was led by the fifth grade chorus. They sang "Our God." Following the talented young singers, 7th grade "Greater" speech winner Laura Gequelin read her speech. A huge round of applause followed each presentation.
A live auction was conducted by auctioneer Dick Crittenden with set-up man Mel Mitchell. Some of the items auctioned off included a three night stay at Resort Harbour Properties, Christmas Elf by Florida School of Discipleship, KidZArt field trip, Family Fun Fishing Trip by Captain Jeff in Captiva, American Girl Doll "Ruthie" in FMCS uniform, a swamp buggy tour plus hog hunting on Babcock Ranch, Chico's Shopping Experience, and more.
Mitchell thanked those responsible for the evening's event, and not all of what he shared is covered here. Feel free to visit the school's website to learn more.
"I want to thank everyone for attending this special event. We have been very blessed by the number of people who have been working on this event, and I especially want to thank Leah McCann and Amy Warden. Those women have been incredible as auction lead chairpersons... " - Mel Mitchell
The evening came to a close with a song by 6th grader Quieda Joseph. She sang "Blessings," and Mel Mitchell closed in prayer with FMCS' 2013 "Greater" event ending by 9 p.m.
As a result of the wonderfully successful event, "Greater," the school is now able to better tackle the gap between of the cost per student and what they actually receive per student, the annual fund.
