“Flying Monkeys” makes its debut tonight on the Syfy Channel. With big hits about vampires in love, the dead walking the earth and werewolves inhabiting the earth, “Flying Monkeys” is introduced at the right time in history. According to South Coast on Saturday March 9, 2013, while “Flying Monkeys” may be a low-budget offering, don’t underestimate its entertainment value.
Once you see the “Flying Monkeys,” you can’t help but remember Oz when the flying monkeys were at the beckon call of the wicked witch. The new flying monkeys look very similar to Dorthy’s arch-enemy’s pets, but they are so much more realistic than what was offered in the original “Wizard of Oz.”
The movie starts with a teen girl getting an adorable pet monkey, but the monkey is anything but adorable when it turns into a nightmare of a predator. Somehow or another, it has a lot of friends and they swoop down and pick off the towns people one by one. The “Flying Monkeys” movie is set in Gale, Kansas, which looks like another throw back from “The Wizard of Oz.”
The pet monkey turns out to be an evil shape-shifter and it raises havoc on an otherwise quiet and uneventful town. Cult movie fans will recognize Electra Avella from “Grindhouse” as the star of this movie. You can catch “Flying Monkeys” Saturday, March 9, at 9 p.m. ET on the Syfy Channel.
