You've got to love the food, beer, and wine scene here in Maryland. These people just love working together. Whether it's collaborative brews between Oliver Breweries and Stillwater Artisanal Ales, or a beer-pairing dinner in Annapolis put on by Punk's Backyard Grill and Dawson's Liquors, there's always some delicious cooperation happening around here. I believe this is a key to what makes the people in the industry in this state so pleasant to speak to and work with... they're used to it!
If you want to see another example of how the locals interact, check out tonight's presentation of "Obsessed with Everything Food: A Living Magazine" on Maryland Public Television at 8pm. The show follows Chef Bryan Voltaggio of VOLT restaurant in Frederick (and of "Top Chef" fame) as he explores the regional food and beverage scene. Featuring crab men and local farmers and snoball vendors, he takes the collaboration thing to another level when he teams up with fellow Frederick residents, Flying Dog Brewery, to create their own special beer, Backyard Ale.
The beer was released last spring/summer, so you probably won't find it around these days, but if you want to see a sample of how chefs and brewers can work together, take an hour this evening and check out MPT. Producer Christy Neale has done an excellent job revealing the Maryland foodscape, and (full disclosure) yours truly had a little hand in bringing it all together as well...
So what if I'm biased? I wouldn't steer you wrong, dear readers. You know how impeccable my taste is!
Anyway, take some time tonight to figure out what channel MPT is in your 'hood, and set your DVR, because you'll want to watch it again and again! Or at least once... you know, later this week after you've fully digested this week's Glee!
Hope you tune in... and enjoy. (MPT, 2/7, 8-9pm)
