Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has been suspended one game for his charging hit on New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov during the second period of Tuesday night's game.
Schenn blatantly left his feet in a charging infraction to Volchenkov and no penalty was called on the play. There was also contact with Volchenkov's head during the hit. As a result, a supplemental disciplinary hearing was held today with vice president of player safety Brendan Shanahan, during which the one game suspension was handed down.
Schenn will miss Thursday's home game against the New York Rangers while he serves the suspension. In three games for the Flyers this season, he has one assist and five penalty minutes.
Volchenkov was not injured on the play and Schenn has no history of suspensions in the NHL.
The Flyers lost Tuesday night's game to New Jersey by a score of 3-0 and dropped to 0-3 to start the lockout shortened NHL season.
Schenn will be eligible to return to the Flyers line-up in Saturday' game against the Florida Panthers.
