The Philadelphia Flyers skated Hal Gill with Mark Streit in their morning skate prior to Game 6 against the Rangers. It was a surprising move to leave Gill in the lineup when many believe Erik Gustafsson deserved an opportunity to fill in for the injured Nicklas Grossmann.
Well, Craig Berube played a game to not tip his hand to the New York Rangers.
Following Flyers practice, Erik Gustafsson announced he will be in the Flyers lineup instead of Gill. The puck-moving defenseman has an opportunity to make his mark on the Flyers brass in the playoffs.
The 26-year-old played in 31 regular season games for Philadelphia scoring 10 points (two goals, eight assists) while averaging 17:31 worth of ice time. In 27 games in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, Gustafsson scored three goals and dished out five assists for eight points while averaging 20:09 of ice time.
This isn’t his first go-around in the playoffs, either. Gustafsson played in seven games for the Flyers in the 2012 playoffs scoring once in the Flyers’ Game 6 clincher over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals and notching an assist in the Flyers’ Game 1 victory over the Devils in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
