The news came from Philadelphia Flyers' General Manager Paul Holmgren who stated, "I'll say it. Chris is never going to play again. I have no problems saying it."
The announcement made by Holmgren is of no surprise because Pronger has been suffering serious concussion issues over the last three seasons. He has not played a game since recording two assists against the Winnipeg Jets on November 19, 2011.
Pronger, the 2000 Hart Trophy and 2000 Norris Trophy winner with the St. Louis Blues, won two Olympic gold medals with Canada in men's ice hockey at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Still, no formal announcement has been made by Pronger itself, but the comments made by Holmgren seem accurate primarily because of Pronger's current condition and his age of 39 years.
