May 24th was a busy day for both the Kansas City, and Omaha Royals. Thanks to new injuries and the recovering from old ones, Kansas City made a whopping six transactions that will reshape the chemistry not only of the major league club, but also that of Omaha.
K.C. first placed shortstop Mike Aviles and relief pitcher Robinson Tejeda on the 15 day disabled list. Aviles is suffering from a strained right forearm, while Tejeda is battling Tendonitis of the right rotator cuff.
Kansas City followed that move by activating reliever John Bale from the D.L. and recalling infielder Tug Hulett. Hulett has been one of Omaha’s most productive hitters, batting .296 and leading the team in RBI with 32.
The big club also sent Luke Hochevar back to Omaha, and recalled reliever Roman Colon from the AAA team. The move might weaken an already shaky Omaha pen, but will almost assuredly strengthen a rotation that is finding its form. Hochevar was 5-0 with a 0.90 with Omaha before being recalled, but looked like a different pitcher once he hit the majors, going 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA over three appearances.
Colon was 2-3, with a 2.84 ERA coming out of Omaha’s pen.
Hochevar is expected to join Omaha today, and will make his first start in his return on Thursday night.
Omaha also activated Cody Clark from the seven day D.L. and sent him to AA Northwest Arkansas.
