Floyd Mayweather thinks Adrien Broner should fight as a light welterweight

Floyd Mayweather said Friday that Adrien Broner should forget about “chasing a Maidana fight” and return to the light welterweight division.

The 24-year-old Broner (27-1, 22 KOs) lost a unanimous decision last weekend to Marcos Maidana for the WBA welterweight title.

A powerful and beloved Argentinean, the 30-year-old Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs) outworked Broner and floored the loudmouth in the second and eighth rounds.

Maidana, who is also a past junior welterweight champion, was far more active than Broner and landed bruising punches throughout the 36-minute slugfest.

Ultimately, Maidana exposed Broner and proved he is nothing more than a fragile blowhard.

“I don’t think he (Broner) should focus on chasing a Maidana fight,” said Mayweather, 36, a defensive virtuoso and one of the premier prizefighters in history. “What I think would be a good one for him is to fight on my May 3 undercard. You know, fight this other guy at 140 and get back on the right track.”

Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) seems destined to scrap Amir Khan on the aforementioned date this spring.

Boxing fans understandably want Broner to “focus on chasing a Maidana fight.”

However, for the good of “The Problem,” Adrien Broner should listen to Floyd Mayweather and “fight this other guy at 140 and get back on the right track.”
