It appears that Mayweather Jr's comments about NBA point guard Jeremy Lin continues to draw national criticism from fans and pundits. Floyd downplayed Lin's success and said the media is only hyping it up because Lin is Asian. Sadly, this is just another example in a long line of incidents where Floyd has made racial remarks. According to a Sunday February 19th report by NJ.com, Mayweather made the following comments about Lin:
“Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he’s Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don’t get the same praise.”
Despite the fact that Mayweather has a tough fight against Miguel Cotti to train for and a jail sentence looming, Floyd is focusing his attention on matters that don't concern his pressing issues. Mayweather is scheduled to begin his press tour on February 27th in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot beginning at 1 p.m. ET. The tour then heads to New York's Apollo Theater on February 28th, and finishes up at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 1st.
The May 5th fight between Cotto and Mayweather Jr. will be live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will be contested at the 154 pound weight class as Floyd agreed to come up in weight to take on Cotto for hi Miguel's WBA title.
