Floyd Mayweather Jr preliminary hearing delayed, Summer In-ring return unlikely

On Thursday, Floyd Mayweather Jr's attorney Karen Winckler announced that Floyd Jr's court case would be delayed until April 28th according to the Las Vegas Sun. Winckler cited Mayweather Jr's busy schedule and the prosecutor's commitment to another case were reasons for the delay. Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa has rescheduled the preliminary hearing for 8:30 am on April 28th.

"Calendars are very difficult for someone who is as busy as Mr. Mayweather is," Karen Winckler

Mayweather is being charged with 8 misdemeanor and felony charges stemming from an incident with Josie Harris on September 9th, 2010. Mayweather Jr is facing felony charges of coercion, grand larceny and robbery as he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, stole her phone, and also threatened to kill Josie's boyfriend. Floyd could face up to 34 years in prison.

Mayweather is also facing a court hearing on April 25th for his assault on a security guard last November. Floyd could face up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine if found guilty.

Unless a plea can be struck between Floyd Jr and the prosecutors, Floyd could be facing a lengthy court battle beginning in late April; assuming he doesn't seek another rescheduling. With the court cases being delayed, a return to the ring looks more unlikely. Over the last few weeks there were talks about Floyd Mayweather Jr fighting in South Africa in July. However, a lengthy trial would prevent Mayweather Jr from properly training and preparing for this fight. It's becoming harder to believe that Floyd Jr will return to the ring in 2011.
