Current WBA Junior Middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto says that he would like to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr by the end of 2011. According to Boxingscene.com, Miguel Cotto did an interview this morning with a local radio station in Puerto Rico and commented on how he wants to fight the big names and singled out Floyd Mayweather Jr. Cotto also puts the blame squarely on Floyd Mayweather Jr for never accepting a fight.
"For one reason or another [a Mayweather fight never happened]. We have to see what happens with his career. We have always been willing to face the big names." Cotto
According to Boxingscene.com, Cotto and Mayweather Jr had discussions last year for a fight but the talks never came to fruition. Apparently, Mayweather and his representatives just stopped responding to Cotto's camp and never gave an official response.
Miguel Cotto seems to be the "hot name" in boxing right now. He's fighting Ricardo Mayorga on March 12th and they are both currently doing press conferences to hype the fight. Additionally, he's been rumored as a potential opponent for Manny Pacquiao later this year and against Antonio Margarito this summer. In fact, Cotto not only wants a rematch with Manny but he predicts a victory over the pound-for-pound champ.
Many boxing fans wanted to see these two fight a few years ago when Cotto suffered his first career loss at the hands of Margarito. Personally, I think Cotto might not be able to hang with Floyd's boxing skills, but surely has the heart and the power to KO Floyd Jr should he be fortunate enough to have the opportunity.
Floyd Mayweather Jr is still dealing with his legal troubles. He hasn't made any official appearances that were boxing related or any public comments on his Boxing plans other than what he said last summer when he said he was going to retire again.

Cotto WAS too green but when cotto was ready to lay that whooping mayweather said no way. Cotto became a complete fighter with a killer jab which is mayweathers kryptonite so he wanted no part in a cotto fight. Many more reasons for mayweather ducking cotto but I don't have all day

Rick I think your secretly Larry Merchant's son. The way you hate on Floyd is so spectacular its not even a joke, You can't give Floyd credit or write anything about him in a positive manner.
