There has been speculation for several weeks that Mayweather and his associates, known as “The Money Team”, were going to be making the trip to South Africa and the pound for pound king made it official on his account on Tuesday when he posted a photo of a map of South Africa surrounded by some of his crew.
“AFRICA -- here we come. My team will travel the world these.. are just a few familiar faces,” Mayweather stated.
It’s been reported by the AP that Mayweather was paid no fee to travel to South Africa and the 36-year old five-division champion is expected to tour four cities in an effort to help “resuscitate” the sport in South Africa.
Floyd is also expected to do an exhibition workout at a gym in the Johannesburg township of Soweto as well as the possibility of visiting the late South African President Nelson Mandela’s apartheid-era jail on Robben Island while in Cape Town.
Stay tuned for more updates.
