Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao could finally clash

In a Saturday interview with fight writer Chris Robinson, Floyd Mayweather didn’t dismiss the notion of facing Manny Pacquiao on May 3.

The WBC recently installed the 34-year-old Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs) as the top contender for Mayweather’s welterweight belt.

Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) can face any opponent he wants on the aforementioned date.

However, following the springtime bout, “Pretty Boy” may be obligated to battle Pacquiao or be forced to relinquish the crown.

“My focus is on May 3,” said Mayweather, 36, the reigning pound-for-pound king.

“I don’t know who my opponent will be. If it’s Pacquiao, it’s Pacquiao. If it’s Amir Khan, it’s Amir Khan. For 17 years, they’ve been putting guys in front of me, and I’ve been beating them. Come May, they’ll put a guy in front of me, I’ll go to training camp, work hard, and the results will be the same.”

Meanwhile, Pacquiao is tentatively slated to scrap on April 12 against an unnamed opponent at a venue to be determined in the United States.

“The Fighting Pride of the Philippines” earned a lopsided unanimous decision over Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios to capture the WBO international welterweight title last month at the CotaiArena in Macau.

Displaying elite footwork and the uncanny ability to deliver punches from all angles, Pacquiao peppered the 27-year-old Rios (31-2-1, 23 KOs) with brilliant combinations that left “Bam Bam” bruised, cut and swollen.

Although a bit more cautious and reserved, Pacquiao remains an overwhelming force in the squared circle.

Pacquiao and Mayweather will not throw fists on May 3.

Nevertheless, for the first time in years, it’s a realistic possibility that Manny Pacquiao could soon be put “in front of” Floyd Mayweather.
