With only two games remaining on the regular season schedule, the top-ranked (27-2, SEC: 16-0) Florida Gators hope to become the first team in Southeastern Conference history to go unbeaten in league play (18-0).
But that’s not all Bill Donovan’s squad is playing for as the 2013-14 NCAA basketball campaign winds down. First up, Florida will try and stretch UF’s record for most wins in a season to 28, before returning home to try and capture an unprecedented 32nd straight home victory in Saturday’s finale versus a dangerous Kentucky club.
“There are still things out there in front of our team,” said Billy the Kid on Monday. “There are things out there for these guys to achieve. I think those guys would like to take on those challenges. The biggest challenge is all that stuff doesn’t make a difference if we don’t play well against South Carolina.”
In spite of Donovan’s cautious approach, NCAA basketball oddsmakers don’t foresee the (11-18, SEC: 4-12) South Carolina Gamecocks [+12] giving the UF Gators [-12] too much trouble this evening. Las Vegas latest point spreads have Florida favored by a dozen against USC and the OVER/UNDER tallies to 131½ points.
Opening tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST (6 p.m. CST/5 p.m. MST/4 p.m. PST) from Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C., and it will be broadcast live on ESPN-U (DirecTV channel 208).
