St. Augustine, Fla, (March 13, 2012) – Public to nominate veterans for service to community and state.
If you know a veteran who seems to be at every event, on every board you can imagine has yet to receive the recognition you believe they deserve, now is your chance to put their name in for recognition.
According to a release from the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs (FDVA), retired Air Force Col. Bruce Host is quoted as saying “This recognition honors veterans for the work they have done for their state, and we encourage the public to nominate a veteran they consider worthy of selection to the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame.” Bruce is the chairman of a seven-member Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame Council advisory panel. “The council has worked really hard to ensure all Florida veterans who are nominated will be given equal consideration during the selection process,” said Bruce.
The Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame will find a permanent home on the Plaza Level of Florida’s Capitol Building in Tallahassee.
St. Johns County veteran activist Ray Quinn, SGM ARNG, (Ret.) is the only enlisted member on the board, but serves as Vice Chairman.
“There are 1.6 million veterans in Florida,” said Quinn. “Many of them have contributed immensely to their community and our state after their military service. It is the goal of the council to recognize those that have gone well beyond in service to nation, state, and community.” “It is truly my honor to have been appointed to the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame Council and I certainly look forward to my service.”
Quinn serves with the afore-mentioned Chairman Bruce J. Host, Col USAF, (Ret.); Marlené Carter, LtCol USA, (Ret.); Dr. James E. Harrell, USA; Charles C. Hart III, LtCol USA. (Ret.); and Adrian “AJ” Jackson, RADM USN, (Ret.)
