For the first time in seven years, Florida takes to the hardwood in tonight’s live stream ESPN online game versus Vanderbilt, sitting atop the 2014 NCAA basketball Top 25 ranking. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST (6 p.m. CST/5 p.m. MST/4 p.m. PST) from Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tenn. live on ESPN and ESPN3.
According to a Feb. 25 report by the Miami Herald, the (25-2) Florida Gators received 47 of 65 first-place votes, ascending the program to the top of the AP Poll, thanks in part to a 19-game win streak, an ongoing school-record.
“Anytime it happens, it’s an honor,” said Florida head coach Billy Donovan. “But it means nothing, in reality, in terms of us preparing and us getting ready to play. … A lot of times when you get this ranking, it has nothing to do with what you do. It has to do with what other people do, and when you start to be affected by what happens to other people you get focused on the wrong things.”
With a chance to clinch a share of the 2013-14 SEC title with a win, Florida will need to be very careful and not let history repeat itself against the (15-11) Vanderbilt Commodores this evening.
It was in February of 2007 that UF took on Vanderbilt with a 17-game win streak and ranked No.1 in the country. However, an 83-70 thrashing put an end to the Gators’ long win streak, and simultaneously knocked them off the top of the mountain.
“Our lives aren’t really changing. We’re No. 1. That’s a really good accomplishment,” said UF senior forward Will Yeguete. “But I think we understand that it doesn’t really matter. There’s still a process every day.”
According to NCAA basketball 2014 oddsmakers, this game should be closer than most people anticipate. Las Vegas’ latest point spreads have the Florida Gators only favored by 8 points against the Vanderbilt Commodores, while the OVER/UNDER is set at a combined total of 124 points.
Opening tipoff is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EST and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. There’s good news for those who can’t get to a television, because courtesy of Watch-ESPN, basketball fans can watch the free live stream feed of this game on a desktop or a number of (Internet) mobile devices.
