According to police Jason Rodriguez, a former employee accused of fatally shooting one and wounding five at an Orlando, Fla., engineering firm thought that the company had blocked his attempt to obtain unemployment benefits.
Police sources said that Rodriguez, 40, told investigators after Friday's shooting that his bosses at Reynolds, Smith and Hills fired him two years ago for without cause.
He had worked at a Subway sandwich shop recently but said that he couldn't get enough hours. Rodriguez told investigators that he had filed for unemployment. Because an expected check didn't arrive, he blamed Reynolds, Smith and Hills.
According to the police Rodriguez walked into the firm, pulled a gun and fatally shot one employee and then opened fire on others.
The five others were wounded.
Rodriguez later surrendered to police officers at the home of his mother.
