Florida serial killer Aileen Wuornos profiled on ‘Biography’ (videos)

January 13, 2012 Charisse Van Horn reporting- On January 13, 2012, the Biography Channel will profile Florida serial killer executed in 2002, Aileen Wuornos.  Wuornos was the subject of Charlize Theron’s Academy Award winning film “Monster.”  Born in Michigan, Wuornos, Aileen Wuornos lived a nomadic life and often worked as a prostitute.  She was found guilty in the murder of six men between 1989 and 1990.  In each case, Wuornos claimed the men or “johns” had raped her or violated her.  Aileen Wuornos was executed on October 9, 2002 by lethal injection.

Born on February 29, 1956, Aileen Carol Wuornos endured a tumultuous childhood. Her mother gave birth when she was 15-years-old.  Wuornos never met her biological father who was a diagnosed schizophrenic and sentenced to prison for the rape and attempted murder of a seven-year-old girl.  Aileen became pregnant at 14; she gave her child, a boy, up for adoption.

Some of Wuornos’ earliest arrests include a charge for DUI in Colorado, disorderly conduct, and failure to appear in court.  Trouble with the law continued and by 1981, Wuornos moved to Florida where she chose to stay.  A traveling prostitute that would frequently hitchhike up the coast, Wuornos began a criminal career in Florida and was arrested for armed robbery, uttering a forged instrument, grand theft auto, and resisting arrest.  By 1989, these criminal acts would give way to murder.

Aileen Wuornos is believed to have murdered Richard Mallory, 53, who was a Clearwater, Florida store owner; David Spears, 43, a construction worker from Winter Garden, Florida, Charles Carskaddon, a rodeo worker whose remains were found in Pasco County, Florida, Peter Siems, 65, whose car was found in Orange Springs.  Peter Siems body has never been recovered.  Other victims include Troy Burress, a 50-year-old sausage sales representative from Ocala, Florida; Charles “Dick” Humphreys, a 56-year old retired U.S. Air Force Major whose body was located in Marion County, Florida; and Walter Jeno Antonio, a 62-year-old police reservist whose body was found in Dixie County, Florida.

After Aileen Wuornos’ execution, Dawn Botkins, her childhood friend, took her cremated ashes back to Michigan and placed them under a tree.
