This past weekend was the Game of Thrones inspired themed event at the Florida Renaissance Festival. This was the first year with a Game of Thrones Day and Sunday March 9, 2014 I encountered attendees attired as Deanerys Targeryen and a few of Daenerys’ tragic husband Khal Drogo, given the weather here in South Florida there weren't many representatives of the frozen north sauntering about in leather and furs. Game of Thrones Costume Designer Michele Clapton has received many nominations and awards for her work on Game of Thrones including winning the 2012 Emmy for Best Costume Design for Season 2 of the series. It’s a fitting tribute to her extraordinary work to see local Miami/Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beach area patrons dress in costumes inspired by her designs.

Beyond costumes the Game of Throne theme days also featured multiple renditions of the series' theme song by the festival’s talented musicians and the Battle for Westeros by festival fighters.

This coming weekend March 15th and 16th 2014 is Celtic Weekend with the “Men in Kilts” costume contest.

The Festival has two more weekends in Quiet Waters Park then moves to Cauley Square Historic Village in Miami.
