A Florida man was arrested Sunday after he attempted to utilize law enforcement as a personal taxi.
According to an August 26 police statement from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a call that originated about a stop sign being down. The caller then allegedly suggested that he was in an accident and was run over by a vehicle. Deputies elevated the call and elevated their response to an emergency.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found 54-year-old Hialeah resident Jose Manuel Vazquez standing in the street unharmed. Officers also observed that the stop sign that began the call was not knocked down.
Deputies reportedly questioned Vazquez about the call and he allegedly told deputies that he wasn’t injured and that he placed the call to get a ride quickly.
Vazquez did manage to get a quick ride, however he ended up taking a detour to the Charlotte County Jail.
He was charged with Misuse of the 911 or E911 System and is currently being held on $1,000 bond.
