Teams can win or lose games due to line changes. It’s a fundamental but it’s also an art.
The Philadelphia Flyers often struggled with ill-timed line changes under former-head coach Peter Laviolette. Sometimes they still get caught on a bad change but that is bound to happen.
Heck, every team goes out to lunch from time to time during the game and get slapped with a two-minute bench minor for too many men on the ice. But what happened last night to the Florida Panthers was about as bad of a line change as you will ever see.
In Florida’s 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Sunday night, the Panthers went off on a line change that saw eleven Florida Panthers on the ice not including goaltender Roberto Luongo! Eleven! Over two times as many players allowed on the ice at one time!
Maybe this is one reason why the Panthers are 24-33-7 this season.
