The State of Florida has raised the minimum wage to $7.93, a 14 cent increase. The wage increase went into effect on January 1.

This is good news for many working people. "I am glad that the state has finally raised the minimum wage. So many people work hard and don't see much for their effort. This increase is good for so many people," said Heidi Sampson, a retail worker.

"I think a minimum wage increase was a long time in coming. People who work hard should make more money," said Tom Bradley, a restaurant worker.

Others said the wage increase should not have been approved. "I think people should make what they are worth not what the government says. I don't believe there should be minimum wage," said Todd O'Connell.
