Florida man sentenced for slashing puppy's throat

On Wednesday morning, Esteban Gonzalez of Jupiter, Fla., was sentenced to jail time for animal cruelty charges stemming from an incident which took place in early 2012.

According to Wednesday's WPTV News, Gonzalez has been sentenced to 24 months in jail for slashing the throat of his girlfriend's puppy last February.

According to the Palm Beach Post, witnesses observed the 24-year-old man slash the puppy's throat with a razor and then smash its head into the concrete of a parking lot.

The puppy died before help arrived.

In the midst of the violent encounter, Gonzalez's girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time, tried to intervene, but she was shoved away by Gonzalez.

Gonzalez will be serving time for animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
