The Huffington Post reported on Friday that 22-year-old Justin Holt was allegedly shot dead in his friend’s home in Boca Raton, Fla. by his girlfriend on accident on Sunday.
The report claimed that Holt and girlfriend Erin Steele, 20, were toying around with a friend’s new 9mm handgun while it was free of bullets. Later, the gun’s owner stocked the gun with ammo and set it out in the same area.
Steele allegedly picked up the gun and actually shot Holt in his chest.
Gun owner Joshua Henry called 911 and told the dispatcher that Holt was shot.
“There was a very bad accident,” Henry frantically said in the recording obtained by WPBF. “Please ma’am, help!”
Holt died soon after he was taken from the Gables Town Place apartment complex to Delray Medical Center later that day.
The four people in the apartment agreed that the shooting was accidental and that Steele did not know the gun was loaded.
Holt’s family told the Florida Sun-Sentinel that they felt bad for Steele because the couple was very much in love.
"We have a lot of compassion for her because she's got to live with that, no matter what she does, for the rest of her life," Holt’s grandfather, Michael DiFiore, told the paper.
Steele nor anyone in the apartment was charged for a crime in Holt’s death.
The Boca Raton Police department announced that the investigation is ongoing.
