A Florida man gave his life Saturday afternoon to save his three year old Yorkie, Rascal, while boating along Brooker Creek in Lake Tarpon, in Palm Harbor, Florida, according to Florida Today.

Friends say Rascal jumped overboard and John Patti went in after him. He rescued Rascal from the water but then disappeared. Patti's friends were unable to find him.

Divers combed the murky waters but the search turned up nothing. The next morning a passerby discovered Patti's body.

The waters of Lake Tarpon are dangerous with debris, bacteria and are difficult dark to see or navigate. There are also alligators. An autopsy will confirm the cause of death, but it has been ruled as an accident.

Patti is described by his friends as a great man and a good friend who was always helping others.
