According to Monday's publication of the Ocala Star-Banner, an Ocala, Fla., man was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly beat and stabbed his live-in girlfriend's dog.
Neighbors heard the cries from the Labrador retriever mix named "Molly," who was inside of a house on NE 13th St. Before the dog's wailing began, 49-year-old Steven Scott Fleming was observed beating on the front door, screaming for his girlfriend to let him in.
When the police arrived to the home, they found the blood-soaked dog, a broken, bloodied baseball bat, and blood splatter throughout the house - the man believed to be responsible for the heinous act of cruelty bolted when the police showed up.
Fleming was caught a short time later - initially, there was concern for the girlfriend who Fleming had been screaming for at the front door, but she was found, passed out drunk, outside of a bar.
Molly was transported by animal control to be treated for her injuries, which included multiple stab wounds to her head and a fractured skull - her current condition is unknown.
Fleming was booked into the Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including resisting arrested, aggravated animal cruelty and violation of probation.
