According to Thursday's WFLX News, an elderly man was arrested in Lake Worth, Fla., after he allegedly beat his small dog and then locked her inside of a luggage carrier

Witnesses contacted the authorities after they claimed to have observed the suspect, 70-year-old Vito Signorelli, beating his Jack Russell terrier and then lock her inside of a vehicle's luggage container.

Signorelli was apprehended by Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies who noted that the suspect also lashed out at a deputy during the arrest.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control rescued the dog, named "Luna," and transported her to the facility for care. The dog appears to by okay physically, but the traumatizing incident seems to have left her frightened and timid around people.

Capt. Dave Walesky with Animal Care and Control has indicated that if Luna's current owner does not voluntarily surrender his dog, they will pursue ownership via a court order.
