A man in Lee County, Fla., was taken to jail after he allegedly strangled his own dog following his dog's attack on another small breed dog, reported Friday's CBS Wink News.

The disturbing incident took place on Jan. 18 after 56-year-old Larry Peterson's dog jumped out of his vehicle and attacked a woman's Yorkshire terrier.

According to the News-Press, Peterson who is from Hailey, Idaho, was able to separate the dogs, but he allegedly was heard asking for a knife to "cut the dog's head off" after his dog was pulled off of the smaller dog.

According to a witness, Peterson then straddled his St. Bernard and strangled him until the dog was dead.

The smaller dog was taken to a veterinarian and treated for puncture wounds to the stomach and lung.

Responding authorities determined that Peterson's dog was intentionally killed and they proceeded to arrest him for animal cruelty.
